An ep of special significance; small and perfectly formed.. featuring two artists that rarely release but when they do it's something special - Polygon Ring and Stud. Also, Kairaus, a new artist from Finland who I met at Assembly a couple of years ago has supplied two supplemental tracks which entwine and create the whole feeling of the ep. idm and ambient excellence is yours to beyond.
Featured artists: Stud, Kairaus, Polygon Ring. |

nname.org wrote on 01/05/08, 9:31 pm | this is just great, i can't stop to listen to this EP | | Nickchen wrote on 01/05/08, 9:31 pm | Yes, there were some fine details and some nice darkness in Cardamars music. This guy definetely knows how to make music (I bet he isn't a autoditact), but the spirit things are too veiled behind these dominant pink clich?of cotton wool.
I know that my critics are too rough sometimes (If I was the musician, I would hate to read such contributions). I don't think that Cardamar should change his music. If somebody intends to earn money and gain economical & social success with music, the Cardamar style will be a silver bullet.
"Classical kahvi style" like Kairaus is a stray bullet under this aspect. But commercial stray bullets is what kahvi is about IMHO. | | Rubicante wrote on 01/05/08, 9:30 pm | I agree that this is more kahvi than cardamar, however I can't say that the last ep was "bad". The question I have is how will kahvi evolve in the future? Lets just hope that it won't ever get "too" mainstream. As far as being a straight critic though, I have to say that cardamar has some good music. Don't worry though nickchen, I think as long as nik is around I doubt we will get too mainstream. 8)
Anyway, on to the review.
Stud, megoman: Been forever since ive seen this fellow. Do I hear fruity loop drums in there? Drill drum if Im not mistaken. The track has good break beat's and nice pads, but like dalekk said. It would have been kind've nice to have a melody.
Kairaus, Flak Kathedral: This new comer makes a good splash with the two tracks he's offered us. Both different. This one is a bit more chill but the actual constant in kairus it seems is he is very beat driven. Nice deep Beats and some surprising ambience make this track sound very nice.
Polygon ring, collider scope: Very consistent with kairaus. In fact as I was listening I thought it WAS kairaus for a second. Not bad, yet again that kahvi sound we all know and love from polygon ring.
Kairaus, nemo: We sure aren't finding him in this ep. ;)
This is where things pick up a bit and get a tad harder, rougher and faster. This ep has progressed from the silent "meg0man" to a drum and bass track. This isnt standard D&B though. It has a certain original taste to it. Just listen. | | Dalekk wrote on 01/05/08, 9:30 pm | Really good release this one. All four tracks are really well made abd are very detailed. The first track by Stud is composed of a lot of ambient sounds which are complimented by a nice drum track. It doesn't really have any melody or main theme, but you do't miss it. "nemo" is probably my favorite track on this release... it is a bit melancholic, a very cool bass sound and great drum programming. The track by Polygon Ring is, in my oppinion, quite different from his other tracks on Kahvi. It's less melodic, but again, you don't miss anything. Top score from me. | | Nickchen wrote on 01/05/08, 9:30 pm | That is real kahvi. Not bad, not bad. Kairaus' Nemo even managed to be copied onto my flashplayer - that is kinda hall of fame!
More of this...........but more draconic attitude towards Cardamar and similar folks, please, Nik! | | Willbe wrote on 01/05/08, 9:30 pm | special trippy mention to kairus : you rule ! | |
